Digital signal processing (DSP) involves representing real-world signal by a sequence of numbers or symbols so they can be processed with computing electronics. DSP is important in sonar and radar signal processing, sensor array processing, image processing and communications. These days military DSP is often done using FPGAs, although stand-alone DSP chips and general purpose processors are also used.
